A large part of the work Krunch does within the local area is encompassed in the provision of the alternative education programme. This programme is geared specifically to assist those between the ages of 14 –18yrs. Young people are referred from local secondary schools, Connexions and Sandwell LEA. The programme is also supported by ACES (West Bromwich Albion Community Project). Our programme offers young people an alternative approach to learning.

The alternative education package is made up of both mentoring and group workshops on subjects such as anger management, sexual health, consequences of crime or more practical sessions such as creative arts or basic mechanics at Birmingham Wheels. The two strands combined prove to be a good way to build relationships with young people and address issues during mentoring sessions that would help them in the wider environment.

The Getting Connected Programme, which all Krunch mentors use, is an excellent tool to engage the young person in looking at his or her own personal development. The mentors pick up on themes raised in workshops to use with the Getting Connected package. Krunch is committed to helping each individual on the programme reach their potential both in their school life and their personal life, as one will inevitably have a knock-on effect on the other. Getting connected is an OCR accredited programme, therefore a young person obtaining as little as one unit will be awarded a certificate, while those young people gaining 5 units or more will achieve a Profile of Personal Development award, which is the equivalent of NVQ Level 1.
